Who’s behind Convoca
Convoca was born from a real need. Not from a business plan.
In 2024, the Socio-environmental Association Biodevas needed to manage 120 members. They had tried shared spreadsheets, Google Forms, WhatsApp groups, and a SaaS that cost $30/month. Nothing worked.
José Carlos, Biodevas secretary and software developer, decided to build the tool his association needed. A WordPress plugin that would centralize members, dues, activities, and volunteering. Without depending on external platforms. Without paying per user.
The result was Convoca. First, Biodevas used it. Then the Centro Social Los Lugg. Today it’s an ecosystem of 6 modules running in real production, managing hundreds of members.
Philosophy
- Open source (GPL v2+): the code is public. If you want to modify it or hire someone, you can.
- Your data is yours: everything on your WordPress. Not on third-party servers.
- Honest freemium: the free version is functional forever. No member limit.
- Made for associations, by people from associations: the person who develops Convoca is an association secretary.
